Deuteronomy 30:19-20

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

33 Miles - One Life to Love

33 Miles is not a band that I have heard much from, but what I have heard has been great! This, their 2nd CD, came out Tuesday, and the title song is amazing! I have not yet purchased the CD, but "One Life to Love" has been on the radio for several weeks now. It is a great reminder of how we only have one life here on this earth, and we must make sure that we are living life to its fullest. Sometimes, the decisions we make can never be reversed, and we are stuck with the consequences. We must remember that we sometimes only get once chance. So before I go much further, take a look at these lyrics:
..
One Life to Love:
..
He never thought he cared so much about the minute hand
Until he started praying for a second chance
If he could only do it all again
And trade the long nights that he spent behind his desk
For all he missed
He tells his wife I wish that this moment in this room
Was not me dying but just spending a little time with you
.
Chorus: You only get just one time around, you only get one shot at this
One chance to find out the one thing that you don’t wanna miss
One day when it’s all said and done I hope you see that it was enough
This one ride, one try, one life to love
..
She never thought she cared so much about those little hands
That held on tight the day she left till she was scared to death
Sitting all alone on a hotel bed, the end of the road
The sun has set on her big plans to feel young again
She picks up the phone, dials a number, hears that little voice
That’s haunted every single mile since she made that choice
..
You only get just one time around, you only get one shot at this
One chance to find out the one thing that you don’t wanna miss
One day when it’s all said and done I hope you see that it was enough
This one ride, one try, one life to love
..
In both situations, these fictional characters made decisions that could not be reversed. For the man, he had spent so much time at work that he neglected his family duties. He missed out on the nights that he could have spent with his wife and kids. So there on his deathbed, instead of just staying up talking with his wife, he found himself only wishing that he could. The woman in the second verse has walked out on her own children. She had her "own plans," and it seems as if that did not include a family or children. So she left and went on her own way. But something kept her wondering if what she did was right. She was "haunted every single mile," and she realized that by talking to that "little voice" one night.
..
Both people came to the realization that they had messed up, but by the time this came to their mind, it was too late. there was not much they could do to mend the relationships or fix things. Time moves on, and we cannot go back and change our lives. We must remember that those decisions we have made in the past cannot be changed either. We have to move on. But that does not mean that all is lost. Until we find ourselves facing death, we still have time to get our life turned around. We do not have to be like the man on his deathbed regretting his life. If there is something that you wish you had not of done, you can change right now. God is waiting, and He wants you to come to Him, giving your life to Him. Remember, you only get 1 life. We only have 1 chance to make the most of this life. Do not waste it!

Matt, You are so right. This song and the lyrics are eye-opening revelations from the throne of God. This song not only made me realize there were things I missed, and times I was too self involved but it also showed me God's amazing grace once more because He doesn't condemn me for my mistakes but He reminds me of the time I have left to do His will. God bless you!! I love 33 Miles as well!!

I LOVE this song, I am about to blog about it myself, and was looking up the lyrics and found this... thanks for your thoughts... we tend to waste so much time on things that do not matter in the end! Thank you!

Great music, great theme and it is so true that God gives us one chance to get it right. I have dedicated my life to doing just that in both this present and in the future. This song really touched me the lst time I heard it and I can't listen to it enough.

Just heard this song on the radio on my way to work. Had to look up the lyrics which is how I found you. It just made me realize even more how precious life is. As a mama, there are days where you wonder "is there more than wiping bums, cleaning house, grocery shopping and laundry". But y'know what it's those things that make us so important, the little things we do every day for our children. We make the ultimate sacrifice for our children, but it is so very very worth it in the end. So as mundane as my life can be some days, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I've got this one life to love and I'm going to give it my all!
